website is back up and running

I let the site lapse for a while because I couldn’t be bothered setting up a linux VM and making the effort to secure it properly.

So I was waiting for another special like I had with zuver.com.au and my prayers were answered.

I am quite impressed with their user interface, I might actually stick with them at the end of the year.

I had to import all the old blog posts from a WordPress XML file. That was a quick process, until I realised:

  • a lot of the links were to hucker.com instead of stephenhucker.com
  • A few hundred URLs were pointing to
    • stephenhucker.com   So had to changed to stephenhucker.com/blog
  • So I had to manually search and replace the WordPress XML file (~36,800 lines), upload the file, notice another error and repeated the process until I was satisfied.

Total time: about 90 minutes.

Which is pretty good I think.
