Movie poster for "The Chaser" (2008)

Just saw, the Chaser, a Korean movie

From IMDB

Joong-ho is a dirty detective turned pimp in financial trouble as several of his girls have recently disappeared without clearing their debts. While trying to track them down, he finds a clue that the vanished girls were all called up by a same client whom one of his girls is meeting with right now. “

It’s one of the best films I seen in a long time. Never a dull moment

Waterboys

If you like comedies about misfits, then Waterboys (?????????, W?t? B?izu) is for you.

Its about a group of Japanese high school boys who decide to do synchronised swimming.
Its quite funny and lead to a sequel of sorts, Swing Girls (no not that swing) about a group of Japanese school girls who are the class misfits. Instead of swimming, they create a big band swing group.

What I liked about both movies was the positive outlook on life our heroes had. Even though they were the misfits good things came to them in the end.

Watching the first season of The Tudors

The Tudors is a historical drama television series created and entirely written by Michael Hirst. The series is loosely based upon the early reign of British monarch Henry VIII.
I have really enjoyed this drama. Unfortunately it has entailed looking up English history again as it seem I have forgotten a little since I was a schoolboy

Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII

I want that …

Nice Bike … one day I want one.

Because it is a foldable bike, it needs small wheels (20″) if you want it to be able to fold it up into a small space This means you need a long seat post and handlebar post then on a normal bike.

GalFromDownUnder

Went to the Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club meeting last night.
They had a talk about a 30 day trip in Indonesia

and more importantly they had a talk from the GalFromDownUnder

GalFromDownUnder

She is a Evangelist for Bike Friday, a small custom bicycle manufacturing company in the USA.

She demonstrated one of the new models and I was quite impressed. One of the guys at the meeting had one as well.

They make some great bikes, so have a look , you won’t be disappointed.

There is a film night in about two weeks which features two films that the GalFromDownUnder has made, so I will pop along to that.

Getting a car licence

When I was 18 I didn’t get my licence on my 18th birthday (the earliest you can get a full licence)
Why? .. the police station was closed.

I did it the day after.

My friend William has been a PR (Permanent Resident) in Australia now for over 3 years.
He did not bother to get his licence. Now he is unemployed and he needs a licence to get a job.
If he had a license he would have a job within the week.

The problem is it is much harder to get a licence now then when I was 18.

My licence test consisted of driving past the local primary school, out into the countryside where the policeman’s house was and the back to the police station.
Total time: 10 minutes
Bad Points: Was told off for speeding past the school
Result: Pasted by a country mile!

I did after all grow up in a small country town, and a country mile is not that far πŸ™‚

My friend on the other hand has a much more difficult proposition. The current test ia about 20 minutes and it is very easy to make a mistake and fail.
Which he has, three times.
Once for speeding for more then 5 seconds (around 43 in a 40km zone)
Second time, when at a stop sign failing to wait 3 seconds before proceeding through.
and the third time … I have forgotten.

His last chance comes in a little over a week. If he fails then he has to wait 3 months before taking another test and the test will consist of a 50 minute drive.
